Cagrilintide

Clinical Trials

Cagrilintide

Aliases
CagriSema (combo with semaglutide)
Administration
Subcutaneous injection (once weekly)

How it works

  1. Activates amylin receptors (AMY1-3) in the hypothalamus and brainstem

It mimics amylin, a hormone your pancreas releases alongside insulin, which tells your brain you're full.

  2. Slows gastric emptying, prolonging satiety

It slows how quickly food leaves your stomach, keeping you fuller for longer.

  3. Suppresses glucagon secretion

It reduces a hormone that would otherwise raise blood sugar.

  4. Synergizes with GLP-1 agonism for additive appetite suppression

It works through a completely different hormone pathway than GLP-1 drugs, so combining the two produces a bigger effect than either alone.

Result

Enhanced, longer-lasting appetite suppression when combined with GLP-1 therapy, supporting greater weight loss than either compound alone. This generally feels like an even stronger sense of fullness after smaller meals, compared to GLP-1 therapy on its own.
