Overview

Follistatin-344 is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring human protein that binds and neutralizes myostatin and activin A, two signaling proteins that normally restrain muscle growth. By blocking this natural brake, follistatin-344 is studied for its potential to promote significant increases in muscle mass, distinct from growth-hormone-pathway peptides that stimulate growth rather than remove a limiting signal.

Treatments studied

Treatment categories

Muscle wasting (research interest)

Its myostatin-blocking mechanism is being explored specifically for conditions where preserving or rebuilding muscle mass is a priority.

Sarcopenia

By removing the myostatin brake on muscle growth, it's studied as a potential counter to the age-related muscle loss seen in sarcopenia.
