Overview
MGF is a splice variant of IGF-1 naturally produced by muscle tissue in response to mechanical stress or damage, distinct from the liver-derived systemic form of IGF-1. It's studied for its role in activating satellite (muscle stem) cells to drive local muscle repair and hypertrophy, though the commercially sold synthetic fragment is notoriously unstable and rapidly degrades.
Treatments studied
Treatment categories
Muscle injury recovery (preclinical)
Activates dormant muscle stem cells specifically at the site of mechanical damage.
Sarcopenia
Studied for its potential to reactivate muscle-building signaling that declines with age.
