Pentosan polysulfate may require a prescription (Elmiron). For hip dysplasia and early OA, injectable pentosan polysulfate via a veterinary compounding pharmacy is used in some protocols. Long-term pentosan polysulfate use has rare retinal pigmentary changes — annual eye exams recommended.
