Overview
ARA-290 is a synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide derived from a specific region of erythropoietin (EPO) that provides EPO's tissue-protective, anti-inflammatory effects without triggering the red-blood-cell-boosting activity that makes full EPO risky to use therapeutically. By selectively activating the innate repair receptor rather than the classical EPO receptor, it has shown promise in clinical trials for chronic neuropathic pain and nerve-related inflammation.
Treatments studied
Treatment categories
Neuropathic pain (research)
Demonstrated long-term relief of nerve-injury-related pain in animal studies, with early positive signals in human sarcoidosis-associated neuropathy trials.
Nerve inflammation (research)
Suppresses the spinal microglia response that drives and maintains nerve-related inflammation following injury.
Autoimmune neuritis (preclinical)
Reduced nerve inflammation and improved nerve regeneration in animal models of autoimmune nerve disease, without affecting red blood cell production.
