How it works
- Activates the GLP-1 receptor to suppress appetite and slow digestion, similar to semaglutide.
Most weight-loss peptides work by making you less hungry. Survodutide does that too, but it also directly tells your body to burn more calories at rest, which is the added glucagon-receptor effect.
- Simultaneously activates the glucagon receptor, which increases energy expenditure and liver fat metabolism โ an effect single-pathway GLP-1 drugs don't have.
This dual action is also why it's being studied for a liver condition (MASH) specifically, since the glucagon-receptor pathway affects how the liver processes fat.
Result
Trial data suggests substantial weight loss driven by both reduced appetite and increased calorie burning, a combined mechanism distinct from single-pathway GLP-1 drugs โ though it remains investigational and is not yet available outside clinical trials.
