Overview
Survodutide is an investigational dual GLP-1 and glucagon receptor agonist being developed by Boehringer Ingelheim, currently in Phase 3 trials for obesity and for MASH, a serious liver condition. By activating the glucagon receptor alongside the GLP-1 receptor, it is designed to increase energy expenditure in addition to the appetite-suppressing effect of GLP-1 activation alone, distinguishing its mechanism from single-pathway GLP-1 drugs like semaglutide.
Treatments studied
Treatment categories
Obesity / weight management
Its dual GLP-1/glucagon mechanism produced weight loss results in Phase 2 trials comparable to or exceeding single-pathway GLP-1 drugs at certain doses.
MASH / fatty liver disease (research)
The added glucagon receptor activation directly affects liver fat metabolism, the basis for its investigation as a treatment for this specific liver condition.
